Resveratrol

Plants have this natural protection when they are being threatened or actually being attacked by outside factors or pathogens like fungi, bacteria, ultraviolet rays, insects, etc. This phytochemical is referred to a resveratrol. When absorbed by the human body, this natural shield serves as an antioxidant that helps protect the body the same way it protects the plants. It is also produced as a nutritional supplement with its source being the root of the Japanese Knotweed, which is found in China.

Although originally found in 1940, resveratrol has gained some popularity only recently. Its original source was the root of the White Hellebore, but it can be found in so many others like grape skin, cranberries, mulberries, and peanuts. It can also be found in red wine. Grape seed extracts may have some hints of the phytochemical, but the primary component is a different type of antioxidant called proanthocyanidins. The skin of the grapes would be your best bet for source to protect you against cancer. Together with other types of fruits and vegetables of different colors, one could get himself protected with all the antioxidants his body can absorb.

There is a long list of healthy benefits that one can get from getting the right dosages of Resveratrol. It is anti-cancer, anti-aging, anti-obesity, antioxidant, antidepressant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-anxiety attacks among others. The right dosage taken regularly will also help lower the risks of heart ailments, normalize blood pressure and blood sugar levels (in diabetic patients), and support the immune system.
